Cheap flights are usually associated with poor food, no leg room and grumpy air hostesses. And to be fair, that's not quite true in most cases. You can find plenty of last minute deals that are a real bargain, as long as you aren't too picky about the destination. Going through a holiday agent (one that is ABTA registered of course) will cut out a lot of the hassle for you.
Booking flights direct can save you money too, but again, it's just a matter of shopping around to find the cheap flights. You can forego comfy seats, legroom and the hope of any decent food by going with cheap flights. Or if money is of no question, then welcome to the world of business class friends - put your feet up and enjoy the champagne.
Any extras
Check your passport is up-to-date well before you travel, and bear in mind that some countries require several months' validity.
You may not like it, but get any medical jabs/vaccines you need well in advance - check with the Department of Health what you need to get done.
Try not to keep all your vitals like credit cards, passports and cash in the same place - if you lose your wallet/purse, you lose the lot.
Be careful of package holidays that don't specify a hotel, and ask to see pictures if you can - you could end up in a building site and don't want any surprises when you get there. Make sure the deal specifies exactly what flights, accommodation, and meals (if appropriate) are included.
When it comes to booking insurance, cheapest isn't always best. Look for little things like the excess fee and claims policy.
If you're just booking cheap flights, check whether they include tax and the return journey, you never know!
